Claudia accidentally sabotages the USMCA
International trade treaties are the pinnacle of neoliberalism so detested — in lip service — by the leaders of the Fourth Transformation.
The contradictory, lukewarm and weak defense that the formal President Claudia Sheinbaum and her team of collaborators inherited by López Obrador make of the USMCA leaves doubts about the sincerity of her defense in the face of Donald Trump ‘s threats and Justin Trudeau ‘s snubs .
Furthermore, they have done everything they can to ensure that Mexico is no longer invited to sign the review and/or renegotiation of this trade agreement, not only by indulging the drug cartels, but also by destroying the State’s structure by dismantling the judiciary, and by diminishing — in the case of the CNDH — and even eliminating the autonomous constitutional bodies, whose existence is required by the trade agreement with the United States and Canada.
Until now, the four-members had surpassed all the regimes ever remembered on the right, and they have achieved this despite claiming to be left-wing, to fight for the poor, to defend their principles with courageous honesty. Even with their mouths open.
Until the snake bit its own tail. Until they showed their fangs, which have preyed on the weakest.
Popular proclamations are the infamous montage of what we are looking for. Now we are without a way out, without money and without chips to even try a new bet that would allow us a ticket back to the previous era.
With Trump’s threats and Trudeau’s disdain fulfilled, it seems that the changes are irreversible as things stand.
We have even lost the confidence of international players in the new geopolitical landscape.
None of them believe we have the guts to sit at another table in the casino anymore.
They saw us as too green, too fearful, too improvised, too unprofessional to continue trusting us.
4T montages after montages
There is nothing left of the old black magic. The four-handers exhausted all the assets, the resources of the setup after setup, until they reached a dead end.
The little that is wanted to be recovered from this old system is what is shouted out on weekends during tours of the people who are being transported, in the state capitals and in the poorest and most remote villages throughout the country.
Today we are dazzled by other well-prepared montages: to cover up the male eye, to avoid facing the nonsense of the previous and mechanically failed negotiation: the creation of another national university, Rosario Castellanos, is announced with great fanfare, with the pomp of a fifth heel and the circumstance of a compromised person…
… more “swarms” are being prepared to catch low-level criminals…
… Chinese-made counterfeit goods sold by the poorest, informal merchants who mostly voted for Morena, are being seized.
This is how the first two months of the “second floor of the Fourth Transformation” have passed. And it threatens to continue like this until the body can no longer bear it. The threats of imminent devaluations, shortages of food for general consumption, the permanent paralysis of the economic and social apparatus, do not matter. What matters is that they believe that small percentage of balances of their popular base in the villages.
That is why they boast of the results to uninformed audiences, overwhelmed by need, desperate in the face of cataclysm.
They are the only places where the drum of lies resounds loudly, with the ghostly rumble of disaster, with the smell of requiem and, decidedly, with the taste of betrayal.
All over the world, they already know that the Fourth Transformation has lost its social base, that the country is in the midst of a commercial maelstrom, of business distrust and of desertion in all political parties. They know that local businessmen will not return to the path of productive investments…
…less so knowing that two tasty swords will hang over their heads: the prosecutor of the Fourth Transformation and the threats that will surely be fulfilled of imposing tariffs on Mexican products exported to the US.
Local investors were left like headless chickens, abandoned by a government that never understood that it must govern for everyone.
The United States never complies
Abroad they laugh because they have already realized that we are the only ones who do not know that the French have never complied with an international treaty, at least since Dwight D. Eisenhower made fun of the Koreans in 1953, and that is how things went for Douglas MacArthur ‘s platoons on that peninsula, in that invasion of Firulais, the first great defeat of that half century.
It is also known abroad that the United States has never complied with any of the International Labour Organisation’s requirements, which we obeyed to the letter in order to destroy the only remaining factory. Why are we always the last to find out?
Why do we never have the decency to be the beacon of light in the street, why do we give a damn about national honor when it comes to fulfilling external whims? Even the manipulated Luisa María Alcalde dared to say, five years ago, that our low salaries are disloyal to the United States and Canada. What is really disloyal is that there will be far fewer jobs now than yesterday. They are disloyal to the foundation of social justice. They are fugitives from harsh justice.
After AMLO, the flood?
Today we are paying for the original sin of not betting on Trump’s reelection, thinking of its positive impact on the Huehuenche politics, instead of entering the big leagues alongside the emerging nations, the most powerful today. That is why we are left like a dog without an owner, like a dog on the Periférico, stunned and without a destination.
We will start 2025 with a bottomless budget, without investment programs, without a valid cabinet, without economic expectations, with all the indicators to make us run away.
The announcements and promises are fading, they were will-o’-the-wisps, from the Mayan Train to the refinery in Dos Bocas that will only serve as precursors to rising prices, inflation, indebtedness and devaluation. The perfect failed setup.
But the blows received and dealt to the waterline of this ship called Mexico have no reverse.
Is that what the Caudillo meant when he threatened that after him, the flood would come; that no one would be able to fix the situation after he left for “La Chingada”?
Was that the real threat of the Fourth Transformation?
Will next year be rich in this kind of production?
Or what do you think?
Clues
A letter read in public before being sent and an informal phone call make the naive Mrs. Sheinbaum think that her relationship with the empowered Mr. Trump is good and that it benefits Mexico. She insists that the next President of the United States will not impose tariffs on national products, that she is prepared to receive migrants who are expelled and that the USMCA is not at risk. A very tender cherry red riding hood for the delight of the big bad wolf, don’t you think? * * * That’s all for today. My invariable recognition to you who have read this Political Index up to here . I wish you, as always, good luck and many, many days!
